The Garden Grove Education Association is offering five GGEA Scholarships to graduating seniors of the Garden Grove Unified School District and to GGEA members' children who are graduating seniors in other school districts. One of the five scholarships is designated as available only to a child of current, retired, deceased, or disabled Association members. Students who apply may be considering any field of study, and must be entering a junior college, four-year college, or university in the Fall of 2008. Criteria for selection will be financial need, academic achievement, volunteer work, service to the community, and school activities.

The awards are $2,000 each payable at the beginning of the 2008 Fall semester once the student turns in registration information that they will be attending college on a full-time basis.

All students chosen as semi-finalists must be available for personal interviews with the Scholarship Committee.

Community Action Committee
The purpose of this committee is to promote the interests of public education and educators through a heightened public image and community involvement. The Community Action Committee sponsors the Day of the Teacher Contest as well as other community outreach projects. Establish liaison with the various racial and ethnic community groups within the G.G.U.S.D.

Contract Committee
The goal of this committee is to develop the Association’s contract proposal utilizing written surveys, open hearings, and proposals from other committees.

Human Rights Committee
The goal of this committee is to promote equity and justice in Garden Grove Unified School District through member education, outreach, and positive action in schools and community.

Instruction and Professional Development Committee
The purpose of this committee is to organize and promote workshops in appropriate areas, which meet the needs and interests of our membership. Further, the IPD committee will provide information to assist teachers in becoming familiar with pending and current legislation and regulations that affect the instructional program. When appropriate, the IPD Committee will study those sections of the Administrative Regs. and Board policies that affect teachers and make recommendations for changes.

New Teacher Committee
The intention of this committee is to provide a new teacher mentor at the school sites, internet programs and events that address the needs of new teachers, nurses and librarians, and to encourage new teachers to become involved in GGEA/CTA/NEA activities. These programs include providing a new teacher liaison at each school site, and an updated web page of activities.

Political Involvement Committee
The purpose of this committee is to build political leadership and a positive attitude towards the political arena. Further, this committee will establish bonds with the community to locate conscientious people interested in education to run for the Garden Grove School Board.

Retirement Committee
The goals of this committee are: 1) To provide current information on retirement policies and procedures to GGUSD teachers to assist in planning for retirement; 2) To provide recognition and tribute honoring teachers retiring from GGUSD; 3) To act as liaison between the Association and retired teachers.
